We are developing a world-class product management organisation and have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Web to lead the development of our entire website estate.

This is a Group role in that it focuses on both the Economist newspaper experience as well as the broader estate of Impact and Events websites.


Accountabilities:

  • Lead a team of Product Managers responsible for the core web experiences, the sales funnel, and the wider Impact initiatives.
  • Define the product roadmap, involving all the right senior stakeholders from the Engineering and Delivery functions.
  • Set and deliver metrics and KPIs for the web experience. Work with the data and insights team to ensure correct data is being captured and analysed as part of ongoing datadriven processes.
  • Be the 'go to' person for understanding the Economist's web customers what they want from our products and how we can deliver it.

Experience, skills and professional attributes:

  • Have demonstrable experience defining key customer journeys and associated optimisations of the web product experience, and refine them through A/B testing and research. You will bring experience of a testandlearn development culture.
  • Setting clear priorities to achieve customer and business needs with the team, and rally the team around them.
  • C-Level experience with communicating and presenting clearly and succinctly.
  • Partnering with Editorial functions and Product Design to create intuitive and delightful content discovery.
  • Partnering with engineering, design, delivery and business stakeholders to achieve an optimal product experience. Be comfortable working in close collaboration to define requirements, ideate hypotheses, develop solutions and optimise our products.
  • Confidently lead and collaborate with your teams of designers, developers, QA and delivery leads, using Agile methodologies to their full potential
  • Comfortable with every stage of the customer lifecycle from SEO / acquisition through to conversion, and retention. Understanding the dynamic between free visitors, registered customers, and subscribers.
  • Communicating product developments and product vision to stakeholders around the business in a way that is meaningful and impactful to them, at the right level of detail. Create shared understanding and alignment on customer problems and outcomes.
  • Creating the appropriate documentation for all the above, showing a keen eye for detail and enjoyment in writing excellent user stories, JIRA tickets, product briefs, and delivery assessments where required.

  • Reports to the CPO.
  • Manages a team of 35 direct reports.
  • Partners with other Heads Of (S/VP) level colleagues across Product, Design, Data, Engineering, and the wider business.
