We're looking for a Communications Officer who will work as part of a vibrant team who manage the Trust's internal and external communications channels to tell the story of our 14,500 staff and five hospitals.

If you have a flair for storytelling, strong organisational skills and an interest in marketing and events, this exciting opportunity could be your next step.

Your core responsibilities include managing staff recognition events, developing and implementing communications plans for marketing and communications campaigns and planning, organising and running events.

You will develop great relationships with both clinical and non-clinical colleagues and you will have the opportunity to work with our team of specialists to develop skills in photography, videography and graphic design.

We have a large internal audience of 14,500 staff and our external audience includes over one million people in the communities we serve. Our digital channels play a vital role in helping us connect with our staff, patients and visitors.

Main duties of the job

Manage and protect the reputation of UHDB and the Communications team, proactively identifying opportunities to positively promote and increase internal and external stakeholder awareness of and confidence in the Trust. Produce timely, factual and engaging content in a variety of formats for a range of audiences. This will include staff, patients, high profile stakeholders and the general public. Provide expert communications and engagement advice to senior managers and colleagues. This will include media handling, crisis management, corporate identity and reputation management. To plan, organise and implement some small-medium marketing and communications campaigns to support the Trust's objectives. To support the Trust's staff recognition scheme, including involvement with the Annual Making a Difference Awards and being responsible for the timely delivery of the Monthly Making a Difference Awards.

Key relationships: Senior Management teams, Trust clinical and non-clinical staff, regional and national communications leads.

We see on average 4810 OP appointments a day. We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England - an average of 2077 per week. An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day. Person Specification

Skills and Experience

Essential

Educated to degree level or hold specialist experience in a similar role. Previous work experience in communications or marketing. Experience of writing and engaging with different audiences Experience in project/campaign planning from developing a concept through to delivery and evaluation. Experience in liaising with external stakeholders including media. Understand the main principles of communications and engagement, including experience of developing and delivering campaigns across internal and external channels Ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling challenging issues on a regular basis. Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

Desirable

Degree in Journalism, Marketing, or a communications related field. Experience in photography or videography. Experience of planning, organising and delivering events and ensure these successfully meet the objectives required
