To deliver evidence-based therapy SLT assessment and intervention programmes which meet the specific needs of the clients. To independently manage the assessment and intervention of communication and swallowing disorders for clients across Buckinghamshire mental health directorate. This will include people with ASD, Dementia and mental health conditions.

Provide specialist assessment and intervention for clients with Dementia and mental health problems, via the assessment and management of eating, drinking and swallowing problems to prevent malnutrition and dehydration, and reduce the risk of repeated chest infections, pneumonia and choking.


To be responsible, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, for diagnosing, developing, implementing, and monitoring appropriate treatments for patients on the inpatient wards.

To take a lead on developing the communication and aphasia pathway for patients with mental health and Dementia and those with identified needs.

To support and advise the team on SLT interventions which meet the specific needs of the clients To actively contribute to a variety of multidisciplinary meetings e.g., Clinical Team meetings and Care and Treatment Reviews (CTR) To develop and evaluate education and training for all professionals and team members across the inpatient services in Dysphasia, Aphasia and communication and SLT interventions.

To actively take students on placement.

To participate in the supervision of Speech and Language Therapists, assistants, and volunteers, To contribute to multidisciplinary team assessments. To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge pertaining to client group. To maintain professional links with other SLT services and engage in peer supervision where possible. To gain extensive clinical experience and expertise to improve and further develop specialist skills through training, support, and study.

To support the service to achieve agreed performance targets. To contribute to the development of projects and services for the care group in collaboration with other NHS, Social and Community Services, Primary Care and Voluntary Agencies
