We are looking for 8a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist(s) to join the Buckinghamshire Adult Inpatient Teams

We are keen to hear from psychological practitioners who are either ready for something new in their 8a role, ready the step to an 8a role, or who would be ideal for the support of a 7-8a preceptorship / development opportunity. We are interested in speaking to qualified/accredited psychological practitioners with systemic, CBT, or psychotherapy expertise.

We have a range of roles and sessions in the acute care pathway (Buckinghamshire) and lots of opportunities to work across or within several services. We have roles within the Acute Inpatient setting, female and male wards, as well as the newly formed Buckinghamshire Community Rehabilitation Team

This role carries an incentive premium of £3,500 (pro-rata) which will be paid in instalments over an 18th month period. Please note that this scheme is not open to existing employees of Oxford Health.

Main duties of the job

The core work of the 8a Clinical / Counselling Psychologists in acute inpatient services are to provide specialist psychological assessments and interventions for adults with severe and/or complex mental health problems while they are on the ward, as well as working with teams to provide consultation, support and training and working with families and carers. The post holder(s) will also be working with the patients and teams for co-produced service growth and development as well as being involved in supervising trainees and assistant psychologists.

In the post you will receive expert clinical supervision and management support and will have access to a wide range of CPD activities alongside a strong network of psychological therapists in Buckinghamshire. There are excellent opportunities for service development, service evaluation/research and teaching/training. The service has excellent links with the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training and Research and regularly has trainees doing clinical placements and research.

Job responsibilities

Oxford Health is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Patients on the in-patient wards and in the community rehabilitation service all have severe and/or complex mental health needs and the main job purpose will be:

1. To ensure the systematic provision of a high quality, evidence based, specialist clinical psychology services to Buckinghamshire adult acute care pathway services (inpatient and community rehabilitation), This includes psychological assessments, and individual and group psychological interventions appropriate to acute care pathway settings.

2. To contribute to the provision of care to patients through direct and indirect consultation with the multidisciplinary team and ongoing support to create and implement care and treatment plans. Involvement in the ward leadership team alongside the Ward Senior Management Team and the Consultant Psychologist Clinical Lead for Inpatient Psychology to assist with service improvement and implement service changes.

3. To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by assistant psychologists, doctoral trainee clinical psychologists and other clinical members of the teams who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

4. To provide ad hoc consultation to, and to engage in collaborative working with colleagues in Buckinghamshire from in the acute and community services, CRHT, Adult Mental Health Teams, in-patient wards, social care and GPs in planning and implementing care plans for patients with psychological care needs.

5. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of local policies and procedures. To exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the In-patient teams.

6. To utilise research skills, as a major requirement of the job, for audit, policy and service development and research.

7. To propose and implement policy changes which may impact on other professionals working in the acute care and community pathway teams.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral Level training in clinical or counselling psychology, or due to qualify in 2024 Registered as a practitioner psychologist with HCPC or eligible for registration in 2024

Desirable

Qualifications, training and/or experience in clinical supervision

Knowledge

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methids of psychological assessment, formulation and intervention Well-developed communication skills, written and orally to convey clinically sensitive information to clients and their families, and to professional colleagues and teams Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology

Desirable

Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies with people with severe and / or complex mental health difficulties

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, day services and in patient settings Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity Experience of working in the NHS or social care

Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts
