We are looking for an individual with experience in residential and/or secure settings to support with site security.

We are a small school who work with children who may display challenging behaviours.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To ensure students entering and leaving the school are doing so safely.
  • As we are based within a community centre, to ensure students are supported to enter and leave the building calmly and safely.
  • To be a first 'port of call' in case of behavioural escalation, to support with deescalation and intervention (including physical use of positive handling when required), and creating and promoting long term solutionfocused approaches to reducing incidents of challenging behaviour.
  • To receive direction in terms of location as required.
  • To engage in further training to constantly develop skills and knowledge in trauma informed practice and minimising incidents of challenging behaviour, and to train/ mentor others in these areas if required.
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with young people and their families.
  • To abide by all school risk assessments.
  • To carry out health and safety audits under the direction of management.
  • To demonstrate patience and calm even during times of challenging behaviour.
  • To immediately inform management of any safeguarding or health and safety issues.
  • To foster supportive and trusting relationships with the children, parents/guardians, schools, and any other involved agencies.
  • To ensure confidentiality is respected at all times.
  • To follow all policy and procedure.
Previous experience working with children with challenging behaviour and/ or SEN is preferred. Experience in Residential/ Secure settings is preferred.


Our priority is finding the right staff member who is able to build positive relationships with our children, who is able to deal confidently and calmly with incidents of challenging behaviour, and who is able to complete Positive Handling training and use this confidently if required.

The staff member must be open to taking on professional development opportunities.

Working hours:

Monday to Friday, 30 hours per week, 9-3, term time only


You may be working at any of our sites (currently based in Ashington and Stannington), or supporting with off-site visits.

We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We implement all aspects of the safer recruitment process. The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and references.

This role involves working directly with children who may display challenging behaviour. Confidence in behaviour management is a requirement of this role.
