Our Scholarly Communications Team leads on open research, open access, publishing and research data management, contributing to work around research culture, and providing expert advice, advocacy and training to our community of researchers and doctoral researchers. They are responsible for Westminster Research, and University of Westminster Press and plays a significant role in cross-University activity such as the REF2029 submission.

While the team currently reports into the University's Research and Knowledge Exchange Office within the Vice Chancellor's Office, as of 1 July 2024 they will move across to the University's Library and Archives Service, within the Student and Academic Services directorate, recognising the benefits the team's expertise and platforms bring to the Library and Archives Service, while retaining existing strong connections with the Research and Knowledge Exchange Office.

We are seeking an experienced Research Data Manager to join in a leading role to deliver research data management and open research services to enable our University commitments highlighted in our Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy Making a Difference (2022 – You will be joining a well respected team which has an excellent working relationship with senior research leaders and researchers and a reputation for innovation.

The postholder is responsible for oversight, in co-ordination with colleagues, of research data management services across the University. They will be the University's subject matter expert on RDM and advocate for FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) research data and work closely with colleagues to enable open, reproducible research practices across all disciplines of the University.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable knowledge and understanding of research data management best practice, experience working with cross organisational teams to deliver services, advocating for data sharing and the development and delivery of training to end users. They will have an interest in open research and how this differs across disciplines. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team with colleagues across the University and have excellent communication, time management and influencing skills.

The post will contribute to the development of a research environment underpinned by an inclusive research culture where colleagues are encouraged to explore their full potential including a range of research careers and opportunities.
