Role Summary

This position involves supporting the New Business Ventures team by providing clear and valuable financial insights to drive sales and margin growth.

Purpose of Role \ Key Accountabilities

- Full end-to-end responsibility for Commercial Finance support to the Managing Director and Sales teams of New Business Ventures - Daily reporting on margin performance versus budget at product group level, including insightful commentary on week-on-week movements - Providing in-depth analysis to enhance product/promotional sales and margin performance, actively challenging performance when necessary - Conducting scenario planning to assess the impact of price and promotion changes on sales and margin - Assisting in the Budget and Half-Yearly company forecast process by collaborating with category buying managers to develop category-level budgets for sales, margin, and commercial income - Contributing to short, medium, and long-term margin and commercial income re-forecasts based on current trading performance - Supporting trading team with supplier negotiations, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of supplier profitability and cost impacts - Providing sales teams with sales and cost models to aid in new customer negotiations - Reviewing and evaluating commercial proposals, identifying risks and opportunities compared to budget - Serving as a liaison between the trading team and core finance team, particularly on areas like highlighting risks and opportunities related to supplier funding and commercial income

Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience/Technical Skills

- Successful candidates will possess a proven track record of thriving in fast-paced environments, with FMCG/retail experience being advantageous - Strong commercial awareness, numeracy skills, and a proactive approach to questioning and challenging information - Demonstrated experience in aiding businesses in achieving and monitoring financial performance, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders - Advanced Excel skills are a requirement - Being a part-qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) is preferred, though not mandatory
