As a UX Designer in a multi-disciplinary team, you'll be defining, designing and delivering frictionless, useful experiences that help our members manage their money and look after what matters to them.

You'll be working on a wide range of user journeys for our Banking App and Internet Bank, playing a key role in the design of creating great experiences for everyday banking.

You will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary design teams, including Designers, Developers, and Delivery Leads and with other Nationwide departments and stakeholders, to discover insights that support the creation of truly great experiences and services that have a positive impact on our members, colleagues and business.


You will be responsible for working hand in hand with the Product Owner and Delivery or Creative Leads of your project, you will be responsible for the scoping and shaping of projects.

You will interrogate the objectives of each project and flesh out the requirements to ensure we are designing the right things the right way.

You will also have the responsibility for the execution of design tasks, managing dependencies as required to deliver the pieces of work.


While this role is aligned within our Chief Operations Office, Digital and Integration division which includes our Banking App and Internet Bank.

The scope of projects you may be involved in spans end to end digital journeys and wider service experiences, so there will be no shortage of opportunities for you to develop your research skills across a broad range of experiences.

This role will be hybrid working and based out of either our Ramsbury House, Swindon office or our Threadneedle Street, London office.

What you'll be doing:


Working end to end in true cross-functional teams, you'll get to help shape the future of Nationwide's products and services.

No stranger to collaborating in Agile environments, you'll work collaboratively within a team of other designers and engineers to create exemplary experiences and services - whether you're sketching, requirement gathering or researching together.


Day-to-day you'll have responsibility for design activities including hands on creation of deliverables through all stages of the project including research, ideation, prototyping, information design, interaction design.


About you:

  • Good knowledge of the experience design/user experience practice and the ability to use the appropriate methods, activities and tools to create delightful experiences and services.
  • Empathy and creativity in equal measures you're able to understand people's needs, behaviours and motivations, and enjoy solving complex design problems.
  • Demonstrable experience of researching, defining and designing, experiences and services.
  • Understands how to use data and insights to make informed design decisions, that balance user and business needs.
  • An unerring attention to detail and a keenness to become a master of your craft you are consistently looking for ways to learn and develop.
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary agile teams and being able to take a pragmatic approach to meet tight deadlines, without compromising on quality.
  • Brilliant people skills and the ability to communicate well and collaborate with varied teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an aptitude for storytelling and presenting your ideas and opinions in a thoughtful and engaging way.
