Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Women & Children, Clinical Support Services Division

for a member of the Medico Legal Team. Band 3, 30 hours per week. Usual hours Mon-Thurs , Friday 08:30-16:30. The Post holder will require:

Previous experience as an administrator, communicating with the public

Experience of working within a team

Experience with hospital systems

Excellent IT skills

Excellent customer care skills

Ability to work calmly in a busy environment

An ability to prioritise

Knowledge of GDPR

STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete "on call" duties within their role.

Main duties of the job

The Medico Legal Department is a very friendly welcoming department. We deal with access to the patient's medical record the role is varied which includes:

Office Admin

Collating information

Downloading Patient's Medical Record

Communicating with internal departments and external agencies

Engaging with the public

Planning and Organising

To assist the Medico Legal Manager in maintaining departmental performance about quality and quantity by upholding agreed standards.

To monitor own performance against previously agreed objectives as identified in the appraisal process.

To be familiar with all processes of the patients medical record.

To use tact and diplomacy to assess each application for its complexity, urgency and to discuss with the Medico Legal Manager the level of disclosure required by the enquirer.

Arrange and attend meetings, discussions and functions with regards to all aspects of access to patient medical records.

Prioritise and manage own workload considering national guidelines on submission deadlines for subject access requests whilst dealing with incoming queries, progress chasing and problem-solving other issues.

Organise and triage the incoming and outgoing post for the department.

Education and qualifications

Essential

Maths and English to GCSE A-C or equivalent

Desirable

oMedical Terminology oECDL or equivalent RSA Level 2 or equivalent

Experience and knowledge

Essential

oExperience of working within a team-based environment oExperience of working on own initiative and prioritising workload. oClerical/administration experience oUnderstanding of Data Protection Act/GDPR Risk management

oNHS Experience. Working knowledge of e-Care and Evolve and other hospital systems
