Adult Social Care in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where our passionate, caring and committed professionals do brilliant work every day.

Mrs D was frail and unwell. Her son was her main carer, but he wasn't coping. We stepped in to help, but they were hostile to outside agencies. They'd always lived together and were terrified they'd be split up.

Our social worker did a great job persuading Mrs D to get hospital treatment and a temporary stay in a care home.


In an epic effort throughout COVID, she gained the son's trust and sorted all the repairs, carers and nurses needed so that Mrs D could come home to live with her son.

We also got Mr D regular respite and a personal budget awarded in recognition of him as her carer. After all, there's nothing more important than living the life you want.

The Role:


As a Driver/Assistant Support Worker you can make your own powerful contribution by taking people with learning disabilities and autism on everyday journeys, so they can make the most of life.

This role sits within our Community Access Westminster team.

Based at our Droop Street Hub, it'll be your responsibility to pick service users up, take them to different destinations - from the doctor's or supermarket to a park - before safely dropping them home on time.


There may also be occasions where you go further, and help users in the home: for example with bathing, eating or taking medication.

You'll be in charge of keeping your vehicle and its accessibility features clean and in 100% working order too.


We'll give you any specialist training you need for the role - and to tackle other challenges, if you have the ambition to explore different career paths.

But ultimately, what should excite you most here is the positive difference you'll make to service users' days.

About You:

Beyond a valid PCV License, we're looking for someone who's worked with people with autism or learning difficulties before.

Clearly, you'll be a central part of the entire experience. So it's important you're organised and keen to stay up-to-date with legislation and best practices.

Equally, service users will sometimes have challenging behaviours.

You'll need to be the kind of positive personality who enjoys working directly with customers - and shares our ethos of 'every moment has potential'.
