Role and Responsibilities for our Discovery Safety Leader


To further strengthen our integrated drug discovery and development groups, we are looking for a seasoned and highly motivated Discovery Safety Leader to join us.

You will be working closely with other disciplines to provide guidance that directly helps to inform critical and strategic decisions on progression of drug discovery projects through the pipeline.


Key Responsibilities

  • Be part of integrated project teams, providing expert discovery safety consultancy across multiple therapeutic areas and geographical sites, designing and presenting derisking strategies to our partners.
  • Provide key input for strategic decision making and create industryleading approaches to address safety issues.
  • Integrate project safety data (from literature through _invivo _and work closely with project toxicologists in the development phase to ensure a safety strategy continuum throughout.
  • Design, build and interpret Target Safety Assessments for proposed, often novel, targets, and to create associated risk mitigation plans for tailored and strategic derisking.
  • Work with our global network of safety specialists to share case studies and problem solve.

Skills & Competencies

  • Significant and applied experience in secondary pharmacology and project toxicology, particularly in early discovery phases.
  • A good working knowledge of the drug discovery process within the biotech and pharmaceutical industry, ideally for a range of modalities.
  • A curiosity to find new solutions for challenges in the discipline; knowledge of the Novel Alternative Method (NAMs) space is beneficial.
  • A datadriven mindset and a passion to identify and build safety assessment strategies to help select and drive development of the molecules with the highest probability of success.
  • A flexible, collaborative, and adaptable attitude with an openminded and creative problemsolving mindset.
  • A highly influential leader with the ability to forge strong and lasting relationships, and an approachable nature.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including remote interactions, as well as good organisational and time management abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent data capture and analysis standards as well as written and oral presentation skills.

Education and Experience

  • Proven project leadership and line management within pharmaceutical development, secondary pharmacology, and project toxicology environment, with 10+ years' experience being essential for this role.
  • We would consider someone currently working at the level of an experienced principal scientist, with excellent proven pharmaceutical development and leadership experience.
  • PhD or Master's with extensive experience in relevant scientific discipline.
