Primary Purpose of the Role:

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the engineering team to develop and deliver the engineering solution in collaboration with our partners, suppliers and the customer/end-user. This will cover both near term customer support solutions as well as solutions for future updates to the installed training devices.

The Engineering Delivery Manager will be accountable for all engineering management aspects of the engineering team and the delivery of the solution, ensuring that technical governance is applied throughout the life of the contract. They will assume full responsibility for the delivery, management and development of the Engineering Management Plan.

Key Interactions:

You will work closely with all members of the Project team, especially the Project Manager (PM) and the Project Design Authority (PDA) as well as Systems Engineers, the Software Engineering Manager (SwEM), and the Integration Verification, Validation and Qualification Manager (IVVQM). The role will also require working closely with other Thales functions such as hardware, industry, procurement and subcontract management, as well as workshare partners, customers and end user communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Defining the Engineering Team WBS and OBS, the engineering lifecycle, the schedule of engineering work and the engineering management plan appropriate to the size and complexity of the engineering solution.
  • Definition and management of the engineering work packages, ensuring that the engineering tasks are accurately estimated and the progress is accurately captured and reported.
  • Ensuring that the engineering resource demands needed to satisfy the execution of the engineering work packages are accurately captured.
  • Directing and leading the team to achieve the project stage reviews and milestones to cost, schedule and acceptable quality
  • Ensuring successful Customer Acceptance of the solution.
Other responsibilities will include:
  • Provision of strong technical leadership to ensure the solution is matured such that it will satisfy the requirements and achieve acceptance, accreditation and certification (where applicable)
  • Pro-active project and technical risk and opportunity management.
  • Implementing an objective and predictive monitoring regime to enable early identification of issues and risks, and definition of recovery actions to ensure on time acceptable delivery is achieved.
  • Ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe manner and that both equipment and personnel safety aspects are properly addressed throughout the Project in line with Legal and Company requirements
  • Working collaboratively with the wider project team, alliance partner, customer/end-user, functions, suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure the Project Team successfully delivers against commitments to the internal and external customers.
  • Delivering engineering work packages to cost and schedule
