Salary:
£28,371 to £31,099 per annum.

Working pattern: 37 hours per week.

Contract: 3Fixed-term positions, 12 months with possibility to go permanent.

Location:
Chichester, with hybrid working opportunities.


This is a fantastic opportunity to become one of our Communications & Engagement Teams' newest members and help us ensure our residents are kept informed of our latest news and initiatives.


As a Communications & Engagement Officer at West Sussex County Council, you will help deliver a first-class range of communications and engagement activity utilising the most appropriate channels.


You will help identify communications opportunities that support our continuous improvement journey, use insights to shape campaigns and provide detailed evaluation after each activity.


You will have the ability to build relationships with key staff within our services and with our partners and suppliers.

You will also have an understanding of the news agenda, both locally and nationally, to make sure that we continue to exploit every opportunityand react to the stories of the day.

Experience and Skills

Key Skills:

  • Ability to develop creative ideas and produce engaging editorial across all forms of communication.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workloads effectively, in response to changing demands, and to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Relevant degree, or equivalent qualification e.g. NCTJ, or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant theoretical and practical knowledge of communication platforms, processes, procedures and policies associated with working within a busy communications team.
  • Understanding of the media landscape and effective management of media sensitive issues.
  • Understanding of the political landscape.
  • Experience of working on a variety of communications activities, particularly in a public sector environment. Also, of working in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience of mentoring or coordinating staff and activities to meet team objectives.
  • Experience in using media distribution and monitoring software.
