Main duties of the job

We are keen to recruit a Social Work Team Manager registered with Social Work England to take responsibility for the management, leadership and further development of the Specialist Forensic Community team. The post holder will provide effective line management and supervision for Social Work and support staff as appropriate, and will ensure that these arrangements are in place within the clinical team. The Social Work Team Manager will lead on the development of Social Work within the service supporting staff through learning, development, guidance and practice. The successful candidate will manage a small caseload of patients and will be expected to lead on issues such as safeguarding, family and carers support, give clinical opinion and make decisions on issues such as risk management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria

  • Relevant professional qualification as a registered Social Worker
  • Relevant post-registration qualification & professional development
  • First or higher degree in appropriate subject area
  • Evidence of training in Social Supervision

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant management / leadership training (eg DMS)
  • Master's Degree in Appropriate subject area

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience of working as a band 7 or equivalent within Community Mental Health and/or Liaison and diversion services
  • Experience of, and clear understanding of the issues relating to mental health care provision within Forensic Community Services and Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion settings
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team of staff and resolution of complex staff relations issues
  • Experience / understanding of service development, including effective change within a clinical service
  • Experience / understanding of financial planning and management
  • Experience / understanding of tendering for new business opportunities
  • Experience / understanding of setting up teams/services
  • Experience and understanding of the role of Social Supervision.
  • Experience of incident investigation and complaint investigation

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of writing for publication
  • Demonstrated experience of working across aspects of the criminal justice system
  • Experience of working within a community mental health team
  • Experience of working within a Home treatment team, crisis team, AMHP service

KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria

  • Understanding of current mental health and criminal justice developments and policies
  • Understanding and experience of Clinical Governance frameworks
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of contemporary mental health care
  • Clear understanding of national policy on patient and public involvement, and a commitment to implementing this
  • Detailed understanding and experience of the principles of clinical and managerial supervision
  • Understanding of principles of performance management
  • Clear understanding and experience of safeguarding adults & children
  • Experience / understanding of setting up new services
  • Experience of working within a Forensic mental Health Service
