What you'll do:

  • Responsible for buying and purchasing processes associated with all laboratory stores and nonstores products and services, soliciting information regarding items and services that the company needs by coordinating with other relevant departments within the company.
  • Establishing and renewing framework agreements with suppliers for stock and nonstock specific purchases.
  • Sourcing of goods and services, utilising frameworks as appropriate.
  • Determining the optimum supply route, utilising stores and merchants as appropriate.
  • Supplier development, improving quality of service, required standards or implementation of processes to improve the procurement cycle.
  • Placing purchase orders and expediting delivery.
  • Liaise with suppliers to determine the best methods of delivery, ensuring internal customers receiving goods and materials in a timely manner to keep the labs in compliance.
  • Identification and confirmation of current and future product requirements.
  • Ability to liaise with site managers/staff on technical issues and product specification.
  • Key conduit with stock controller as stores consumables buyer.
  • Manage maintenance contracts including any servicing requirements to the required standard.
  • Resolution of invoice/payment queries.
  • Respond to general enquiries and requests for information.
  • Makes inquiries regarding prices, quality of goods, delivery details, and other information that need to be considered before proceeding with purchasing goods from a supplier.
  • Conduct research, as required, to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, quality, service and delivery schedules.
  • Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, and relevant internal departments.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers.
  • Process quotes, orders GRN's and invoices in a timely manner, keeping appropriate contract files and use them as reference for the future.
  • Assist the company's purchasing department in the delivery of the company's purchasing strategy.
  • Actively pursue sustainable and environmentally sound products and services, play a key role in sustainability projects within department and wider business inventory.
  • Keep all storage areas tidy and safe.
  • Carry out monthly stocktakes of all stored goods on site.
  • Keep an ongoing check on stock levels to ensure optimisation of inventory levels and eliminate stockouts.
  • Ensure procured goods are appropriately stored wherein the quality will be preserved.
  • Ensure that the purchasing and store practices implemented are compliant with pertinent laws, regulations and insurance obligations.
  • Produce procurement/stock reports and statistics using computer software as required.

What you'll need:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • A flair for negotiation and networking.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Commercial and environmental awareness.
  • The ability to adapt to different client needs and to develop and maintain successful working relationships, internally and externally.
  • An excellent standard of numeracy.
  • The ability to make important decisions and cope with the pressure of demanding targets and tight deadlines.
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) qualification, or working towards qualification.
