Job Overview

As a Desktop Support Engineer, your main responsibility is to ensure all computer systems, hardware, and software applications are functioning effectively to support the staff and hospital's operations.

Main Duties of the Job

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide quality 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line desktop technical support service to the ICT department's customers. This includes call logging, support calls, planned maintenance, installations, and project work.
  • Log, update, and close calls professionally with accurate details for effective use by anyone in ICT.

Working at the Company

We have a team of six desktop engineers collaborating across Trust and community sites, fostering a strong team dynamic for efficient operations and support.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

  • Configure, upgrade, patch, and troubleshoot Desktop hardware and software for stability and efficient issue resolution.
  • Support 3rd party equipment as needed and maintain professional standards.
  • Follow Change Management policies and respond to and resolve incidents directed by Customer Support Manager.
  • Plan, manage, and implement technical projects throughout their life cycle.
  • Ensure all technical works align with ICT policies and procedures and contribute to their development.
  • Execute workload investigation, planning, and delivery with teamwork and accountability.
  • Provide role outputs as required at any Trust site with availability for overtime.
  • Assist customers and ICT members with effective advice and education.
  • Help with project management and maintain a safe and professional office environment.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Training, and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Good general education and numeracy/literacy skills (e.g., GCSE's in English and Mathematics).
  • Microsoft MCDST or equivalent knowledge.

Desirable Criteria

  • Information Technology qualification and ITIL knowledge.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience in 2nd line technical support in a service desk setting.
  • Knowledge of incident management software, particularly IVANTI.

Desirable Criteria

  • Broad NHS knowledge.
