Workshop Technician, Fitter and Mechanic Role
We are a family run business with over 50 years experience in the motor trade industry.

At Basevan we strive to match every customer to their perfect vehicle to start their journey for camper conversions or work vans.

We specialise in ex service and ex council vehicles, including ambulances, police riot vehicles, mobile offices etc.


This is a full-time role primarily for a high standard vehicle technician, fitter and mechanic, who will repair and prep our current and new stock to a professional standard for MOT and customers.

The right person could also be offered responsibility for the management of a workshop.

Our yard generally holds up to one hundred vehicles at any time, so productivity and focus is vital to avoid a backlog of tasks.


The job will involve (but not limited to):

  • Evaluate vehicles and diagnose potential issues
  • Complete detailed inspection reports on new stock
  • Repair a range of mechanical & electrical faults
  • Fit new mechanical & electrical parts
  • Fit custom extras for customers including solar panels, roof racks and skylights
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT and take them to the test centre when required
  • A high level of general knowledge for vehicles and the initiative to notice and report any cosmetic or structural faults found whilst working
  • Occasional welding of bodywork and vehicles
  • Occasional bodywork repair & prepaint prep
  • Auto electrical knowledge
  • Positive communication and interactions with office, workshop staff, suppliers and customers
  • Handling and moving vehicles in and out of workshops and between yards and in preparation for customer viewings, general checks on stock and security, keeping the yard and workshops clean, tidy and presentable at all times. More responsibility will be discussed and added to this role for the correct employee.


Please note, we have a large selection of tools and equipment, however you will be required to bring your own personal tools (spanners, sockets etc).

You must also hold a full UK driving license, over 3.5ton is preferable but certainly not essential.


Regardless of your qualifications, you must have a proven track record in the mechanical industry including cars, light commercials, heavy commercials and 4x4s.

Our Facilities

Our yard has 2 large, purpose built workshops with 4 work bays. A huge amount of tools and equipment you require for any job. We have 3 industrial heavy duty lifts for inspecting and working underneath vehicles. We also have a purpose-built wash bay on our yard with a lift for cleaning and maintenance of vehicles.
