Alder Hey Children's Hospital cares for over 330,000 children, young people, and their families every year.

In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at several community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales, and the Isle of Man.

We also provide specialist inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park Building in North Liverpool.


What you'll be responsible for:

  • The post holder will provide the highest standards of support to children and families visiting the Rainbow Centre
  • The post holder will be an effective communicator in all aspects of their duties both in direct and indirect patient care, they will be required to maintain a calm manner and be able to use deescalation skills in highly emotive situations
  • You will provide a welcoming environment to patients and their families when they arrive at the Rainbow Centre
  • The post holder will remain (where possible) with the patient during their visit to provide emotional support, play therapy and distraction
  • The post holder will promote and maintain a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment for patients and their families, ensuring the patients privacy and dignity is always maintained

You'll learn the following whilst working at the trust:

  • An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS.
  • Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times.
  • A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation
