The Role

Northeastern University London and the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University invite applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Computer Science. Appointments will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of demonstrated teaching and service excellence.

We are especially seeking exceptional educators who will contribute to the development and provision of innovative and inclusive teaching for first-year undergraduate students on the Fundamentals of Computer Science. Preference will be given to candidates with very strong pedagogical skills in software engineering, programming, and algorithm design (ideally in Java or Kotlin programming languages); student mentorship skills; and, finally, team leadership skills. Scholarship includes professional service to the University and the Northeastern University network commensurate to career stage.

The successful candidate will not only have an opportunity to shape and manage Northeastern University London's degrees in Computer Science, but also contribute to Northeastern's international curriculum on the subject. We are especially interested in candidates with academic management experience and will prioritise applicants who meet the criteria to be appointed Head of Discipline. The purpose of the role of Head of Discipline is to provide overall operational management and to take overall responsibility for the delivery of all programmes within the subject disciplines. Further details are available on request or at the interview stage.

Candidates will be considered across all areas of Computer Science. Opportunities for disciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching, research and scholarship abound: the Faculty's grounding in humanics brings together computing, engineering and natural sciences with humanities based on ground-breaking research and research-oriented teaching practices. While this position is primarily focused on Teaching & Scholarship, we are supportive of candidates whose research demonstrably contributes to the Faculty's priority areas (namely, next-generation software, foundations of AI, and human-centred AI).

We particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in innovative teaching, learning and assessment; those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students; and those belonging to groups underrepresented in UK higher education. We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction or job-share basis, subject to our business needs.

The Faculty plays a major part in Northeastern University's first-year student mobility program, offering undergraduate courses in Computer and Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Healthcare, striving to inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding scientists.
