Job summary:

Are you passionate about enhancing nutritional care for those living with diabetes or respiratory conditions? Do you have an interest and passion for teaching and educating patients? This is an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Assistant Practitioner to support across the clinical areas of diabetes and respiratory, undertaking a variety of clinical duties.

In this role you will be able to make a difference to patient wellbeing by supporting the delivery of good nutritional care.

The role will involve working in an outpatient setting providing group and individual education and support to people with diabetes, particularly in antenatal care.

You will work as part of a committed multidisciplinary team supporting those newly diagnosed with gestational diabetes and review their diabetes control during their pregnancy.

In addition you will work under the supervision of Dietitians to provide excellent nutrition and hydration advice on our respiratory wards.

You will provide one to one follow up consultations with patients and/or carers at ward level or by telephone, deliver training to ward staff, actively promote good practice in nutrition and hydration and support the dietetic team in planning and managing effective discharge of patients.

The dietetic department is committed to your continued professional and career development.

We offer excellent training and development opportunities and the support of a large team of dietitians in both clinical areas.

Main duties, tasks & skills required:
A passion and interest in enhancing nutritional care is essential.

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as have the ability to work flexibly and reliably as part of a team.

Teaching and educating will be an important part of the role.

Some other key skills you would require include being able to manage a busy caseload, demonstrate excellent team working, organisation, time management and administrative skills.

You may have completed a nutrition related foundation degree and you need to demonstrate experience of working in a relevant setting.

Some clinics, groups or training sessions may be delivered in the evenings and the Trust is committed to providing a 7-day therapy service with participation in bank holiday cover.

The posts will be based across both Heartlands and Good Hope hospitals.

As the Trust is a multi-site organisation, you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and you may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis, as a result of development or reorganisation of Trust services.
