Coherent Scotland is based at the West of Scotland Science Park in Glasgow and is a subsidiary of Coherent Inc., a global leader in the manufacture of laser products.

We are housed in a purpose-built facility, with research and development, manufacturing, and marketing all on one site.

We have a range of projects running at different stages of the development cycle and we have recently moved into new purpose-built labs in a large extension to the factory.

is a global leader in the development and manufacture of optics and lasers and our Global Information Technology Department is currently seeking an IT Site Coordinator for our state-of-the-art facility, based at our site in Glasgow.


Job Description and Responsibilities:

***You will provide complete Information Technology (IT) support services to our Glasgow site, resolving technical problems from site employees (including those working remotely) involving PCs, server or network. You will ensure that all aspects of the manufacturing processes are supported from an IT perspective. In addition, you will work closely with local IT staff and those outside the UK on implementing global projects to ensure the highest levels of operational excellence

Education and Work Experience:


Able to manage and prioritise multiple issues with mínimal supervision, you will have excellent organisational skills, and be equally comfortable contributing as part of a team and when working independently.

You will have experience of helpdesk procedure, report writing and project management.

With substantial experience of supporting IT, you will be familiar with installation of Windows Operating systems, Windows Active Directory Services, Office365 and have an ability to evaluate systems administration tools.

A flexible approach is required to provide after hours on-call support on a rotation schedule with other staff members.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop business relationships and integrate activities with other IT departments to ensure successful implementation and support of project efforts. Become an IT business advocate
  • Work with local department managers and IT staff to analyze and resolve problems associated with technical issues and recommend solutions for changing needs.
  • Provide IT support and manage IT services at multiple regional sites with other IT team members, escalate priority issues, resolve IT incidents as process IT service requests needed.
  • Develop, document, and implement standard operating procedures and customer service guidelines relating to IT support.
  • Provide operations support including backup, account management, workflow, log analysis, troubleshooting and service optimization.
  • Actively participate as a global IT member and participate on global projects when needed.
  • Champion and implement global IT standards and participate in the feedback process for continuous improvement
  • Manage local and regional IT vendor relationships
  • Manage local server rooms

Education and Work Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize service requests with mínimal supervision, excellent organizational skills,
  • A teamwork approach and the ability to act independently to solve problems.
  • Engage comfortably with more senior managers; effectively present business solutions; determine the best way to get things

done by talking their language and responding to their needs; develop approaches likely to be seen as appropriate and positive.


  • Ability to follow standard service desk procedures and quickly redirect problems to appropriate resources
  • Strong troubleshooting and problemsolving skills, resiliency in the face of continual change, and ability to handle high demands.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience supporting Information Technology operations or equivalent technological work experience.
