Job: Wheelchair Technician

If you're someone who loves to contribute to improving others' lives and has a knack for mechanical and electrical work, then you're in for an exciting opportunity. We are looking for individuals with mechanical and technical expertise to maintain and repair equipment. While prior experience in mechanical and electrical wheelchair repair is preferred, it's not a must. In this role, you'll play a vital part in enhancing the mobility and independence of individuals who depend on wheelchairs for their daily needs.

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Assess and repair wheelchairs tailored to individual client requirements.
  • Perform regular maintenance, repairs, and adjustments on both manual and powered wheelchairs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot wheelchair components and systems.
  • Set up new wheelchairs following manufacturer guidelines and add features as needed.
  • Provide training and support to clients on wheelchair usage and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate service records and manage parts inventory.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Good educational background, including GSCE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • NVQ L3 certification or equivalent experience.
  • Valid UK driving license.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Work effectively under pressure and handle batteries, control boxes, and electrical parts.

Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Familiarity with mobility equipment and safe driving practices.

Skills:

Essential:

  • Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Forklift driving certification.
  • Mechanical/Electrical engineering qualification.

Desirable Experience:

  • Metalcraft skills, ability to fabricate/repair parts, and proficiency in using PAT testing equipment.

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Skilled in tasks compliant with Health & Safety regulations and safe operation of vehicle tail-lift.

Additional Training:

Desirable:

  • Invacare academy Training Certification.
  • Training Certificates from Sunrise wheelchairs courses.
