Calderdale Mental Health Support Team (MHST) has an exciting opportunity for a qualified Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to join our service.


We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and self-motivated individual with a passion for making a difference to the lives of children and young people through delivering early intervention, and innovative models of working in Children's mental health.

The role will involve working closely with a range of school settings (primary, secondary and college settings) throughout Calderdale. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team, delivering a joint initiative between health and education.


Working with a team of EMHPs, clinicians, and support staff, the post holder will be responsible for delivering the 3 core functions of the EMHP role (see attached job description) on behalf of the Calderdale team.

Examples include 1:1 interventions for children and young people (CYP); group work, psycho-education and training for CYP, staff and families, and carers; signposting, partnering, and onward referral to a variety of agencies across Calderdale.

Key Deliverables include

  • Delivering evidencebased intervention for children and young people in education setting with mild to moderate mental health problems
  • Helping children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services
  • Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing
  • Working with and within education environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services
  • To support schools in developing strategies/activities to promote emotional wellbeing and positive mental health
