We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Fees and Funding Team Leader to join our dynamic team within the newly formed Directorate of Student and Academic Services.


About the role:


This role will be part of Delivery Services within the Student Lifecycle department and the Fees and Funding team, which covers student funding with close working with external bodies such as the Student Loans Company and US Loans, fee setting and records maintenance.

The other part of the Student Lifecycle department covers enrolment, assessments, certificates, verifications and graduation. Other Delivery Services teams include Student Systems and Records and Timetabling and Attendance monitoring.


This role will suit an experienced team leader/manager who is a confident communicator (written, face to face with staff and students), can understand complex information and can communicate this into policy, process and to different audiences.

You will be able to lead, inspire and motivate a team, delivering plans to a defined schedule of activity whilst managing multiple deadlines and flexibly deploying resources across the academic year.

This is a leadership and management role, which will require a mix of hands-on operational activity and management oversight.


You will report to the Fees and Funding Manager and will be responsible for the management of fees across Delivery Services.

This includes working closely with Marketing and Communications and Academic Services (within the Directorate) to ensure fees are set and updated correctly within the student records system (SITS).

You will ensure that we fulfil external regulatory and statutory requirements and follow policy and regulations, being an expert advisor on fee related issues.


The post holder will also support funding responsibilities and will primarily support activities pertaining to student loans for example registration, attendance and change of circumstances, working closely with relevant external bodies.

This role will see you working closely with staff and students alike, assisting the university and its' stakeholders to navigate fees and funding requirements across the student lifecycle.


Additionally, you must be able to work under pressure, be able to deliver an outstanding service across the fees and funding portfolio and develop effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.


Main Responsibilities:

In line with the academic calendar the Fees and Funding Team Leader will:

  • Lead and manage a team, deputising for the Fees and Funding Manager as required.
  • Be an expert in matters pertaining to fees and funding, including associated systems such as Student Loans Company, fee setting, student funding, fee profiles.
  • Overseeing timely updates of fees to ensure correct charging of student fees prior to each academic year, delivering outputs of the Fees and Funding Group. This will include updating the student records system and completing audit checks on data accuracy and fee profiles.
  • Plan and operationalise key activities across the academic year, underpinned by clear and consistent processes, flexibly deploying resources.
  • Ensure that the student records system (SITS) is maintained with accurate and up to date data.
  • Ensure that service level agreements/service standards set by external bodies are met.
  • Work closely with Faculty Student Centres and other professional services group to deliver all activities within your remit.
  • Lead on ensuring FAQ's, website, student communications and intranet updates are initiated in line with the academic calendar, working with key stakeholders as appropriate such as Marketing and Communications, Students Union, Finance.
  • Be responsible for staff training across the Fees and Funding team, also training wider university staff.
  • Proactively request feedback to improve services delivered, taking action to drive change.
  • Resolve complex queries from staff, student and external bodies.
  • Analyse data and report on key areas of your portfolio.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and system design and enhancement to improve automation and service to all stakeholders (includes students).
  • Provide reports and summary data of service level agreements and key business data.
  • Ensure compliance with external requirements for all fees and funding activity.
  • Attend meetings and committees, providing advice, guidance and updates where required and also writing and contributing as required to reports and formal committee papers.
