  • 2 Anaesthesia Doctor Posts: There are 2 positions available for substantive doctors in anaesthesia at the University Hospital Ayr (UHA).
  • Programmed Activities: Each post offers 10 programmed activities, with 9 dedicated to direct clinical care (DCC) and 1 for Supporting Professional Activity (SPA).

NHS Ayrshire & Arran (NHSAA) operates two District General Hospitals, University Hospital Ayr (UHA) and University Hospital Crosshouse (UHC). The Anaesthesia department at UHA comprises 43 Consultants, 15 SAS doctors, 20 Trainee Anaesthetists, and 3 Anaesthesia Associate trainees.

The roles will entail providing anaesthesia and perioperative care across various surgical specialties. There will be opportunities to develop sub-specialty interests, including perioperative medicine and regional anaesthesia. On-call duties involve providing anaesthesia for emergency surgeries, critical care support, and transferring patients to the Critical Care facility.

UHA is evolving into a leading center for orthopedic elective surgery, aiming for 3 orthopedic theatres per day. The hospital also covers specialties like General Surgery, Interventional Radiology, Ophthalmology, and Urology. UHC serves as the trauma unit, with services centralized for Obstetric and Paediatric Anaesthesia, ENT, Gynaecology, and maxillofacial surgery.

The team members have opportunities for regional and national roles, including roles like examining for the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Teaching opportunities are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. NHS Ayrshire & Arran runs a highly regarded Medical Peer Support Programme with formally trained Mentors.

CESR Route Support: Specialty doctors aiming to enter the GMC specialist register via the CESR route can receive guidance and support.
