You will be part of Adult Mental Health Psychology Specialty which is part of the Ayrshire & Arran Psychological Service. The Psychological Service comprises of approx 100 staff including Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists in CBT, Clinical associates in Applied Psychology, Counsellors, Graduate Assistant Psychologists and Master and Doctoral Psychology Trainees. The Psychological Service delivers area-wide psychological provision through the Professional Lead for Psychological Services, two Heads of Specialty and Consultant Psychology Leads across the Psychological Specialties.

This post sits within the Psychology Specialty of the South Ayrshire Adult Community Mental Health Service, based between Ailsa Hospital (admin base) and Arrol Park Resource Centre (clinic). The Psychology Specialty is an established and enthusiastic team consisting of: Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology, Counsellor and Trainee Clinical Psychologists on the Glasgow University Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme.

You will deliver highly specialist Psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to adults presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties. The Psychology Specialty provides a range of therapeutic approaches, namely Cognitive Behavioural therapies, Compassion Focussed therapy, Behavioural Family Therapy, etc. You will have opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills and undertake further therapeutic training as required. You will be expected to provide supervision where appropriate and to work closely with colleagues in the wider multi-disciplinary team. There will be opportunities for service development, teaching/training and audit/research activity.

In order to support clinicians the Psychological Services places a strong emphasis on governance and CPD and has excellent opportunities for training and supervision from an experienced Clinical Psychologist.

A Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and an Honours degree in Psychology (minimum upper 2nd class) is essential, as is experience of delivering psychological assessment, formulation and highly specialist therapies to adults who present with complex psychological and psychiatric disorders. Previous experience of working within the NHS and team working in multi disciplinary team/multi agency settings is essential as are excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

We would welcome interest in this post from recently qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologists, as well as final year Trainees on a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme.
