Job Title: Stroke Medicine Junior Doctor at UHSussex Hospital

  • Job Overview:

  • Ideally, you have decided on Geriatrics/Stroke Medicine as your preferred career or are in an allied specialty with an interest in Elderly care and education. Alternatively, if you have completed F2 and are looking for a new experience before deciding on your future path. Active interest in improving care quality within the trust. Capable of managing projects independently and under supervision. Skilled at team working. Regular supervision meetings with a training Consultant will help shape your future career.
  • The Stroke Department at UHSussex aims to promote speciality interests and has consultants with expertise in education, simulation, acute stroke care, pre-hospital medicine, teaching, and research. Consultants are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and in developing services at regional and national levels. The academic unit is globally recognized with a track record of major publications, grants, and supervision of MD and PhD candidates.

Main Duties of the Job:
  • Responsible for all teaching aspects of the Stroke component and Geriatrics Medicine component of module 306
  • Attendance in weekly 3-hour teaching sessions as part of a planned ward round rota
  • Evidence of output for the non-clinical project time, such as research, audit, or QIP project
  • Clinical work as part of the above activities

Stroke Medicine is evolving rapidly, and at UHS East (Royal Sussex County Hospital, RSCH) you will be part of a dynamic team exploring different ways of working and expanding department services and staff, leading the way in the UK. Treat 650 stroke patients/year with services from thrombolysis to after-stroke care. Close links with Brighton and Sussex Medical School for inspiring new generations of doctors.

Person Specification:
Experience/Qualifications:
Essential Criteria:
  • Basic medical degree
  • Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent

  • Higher Degree
