About Everyday Money Management Digital

Everyday Money Management (EMM) Digital team is responsible for building Digital experience for our customers across Barclays App, My Barclays & Full Serve for our entire EMM products sets -cards, loans, overdrafts, payments, open banking and products built on the our Next Gen Consumer Banking (NGCB) platform.

We have adopted Cloud-First strategy and DevSecOps model to deliver operational efficiency and to improve our 'time to market' plan for EMM Digital products aligning to Digital strategy.

Improved customer experience is the highest priority for us while we invest in our engineers to learn, grow and contribute to digital strategy by creating an Engineering Excellence Hub to deliver a highly performant, resilient and secure platform.


Overall purpose of role

Responsible for driving all technical aspects of delivery, setting and improving technical direction and standards for development and design across the platforms that support our products and services for Barclays UK customers.

This role will report directly to the Global Head of Digital, Everyday Money Management (EMM) and is responsible for designing and building Digital platforms for EMM.

Key Accountabilities

  • Drive Cloud-first strategy for the Digital channels and build the new digital platforms for Everyday Money Management systems
  • Lead the design and build of new digital platforms across all EMM Digital channels – mobile, web and colleage channels
  • Contribute to BUK Digital strategy and supporting the delivery of digital platforms
  • Create enhanced forward compatible technical capability in the teams in-line with technology and business strategies, across geographies
  • Drive platform innovation and roadmaps to modernise and future proof the technology estates, and uplift resiliency, stability, security and simplification
  • Drive the use of consistent components, tools, technologies and frameworks within the platforms
  • Enable agile delivery through continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), test automation at all levels
  • Champion our workforce strategy as we look to continue to recruit world class engineering capability across our strategic campus locations (across the UK and India).
  • Leverage group-wide capabilities, technologies, patterns and practices. Creating capacity for the business by delivering with maximum efficiency.

  • Technologist role model – retention and attractor of top technology talent
  • Extensive experience in Cloud technologies AWS or GCP, working knowledge of containersation and cloud native services

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Must have Computer Science Degree with hands-on experience in building cloud native solutions
  • Strong technical working experience in software engineering and design roles
  • Significant software development experience, with multiple programming languages
  • Significant and demonstrable experience of leading detailed design and implementation of scalable, robust and performant solutions using a number of technologies
  • Experience of leading and managing technical teams (solution architects, solution designers, etc.)
  • Significant experience integrating disparate systems and exploiting effective APIs and most appropriate technologies
  • Strong experience of Agile and DevOps principles, tools and practices
  • Experience with automation and cloud technologies
  • Strong analytical skills and proven ability to simplify and clearly communicate complex analytical outcomes, linkages and messages to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong experience of wide range of application development technologies including APIs, microservices, containerisation, elastic, scalable and distributed architecture

  • The role holder will have strong people management and leadership skills and have had specific experience working in a matrix management model where influencing, challenging and negotiating skills have been highly leveraged

  • Extensive hand-on experience in creating infrastructure-as-a code, policy as a code using terraform or cloudFormation
  • Experience of architecting and designing networking solution by analysing the threat model
  • Experience of mentioring platform engineers to drive engineering best practices a
  • Experience of building CI/CD pipeline and driving automation
  • Experience of building Canary and blue/green deployment for cloud and on-prem workloads
  • Degree in computer science or a similar field.
