Job Description SummarynThe Lead Control & Protection Software Engineer will be part of highly motivated dynamic team of engineers working on design, development and maintenance of control and protection system application software for LCC and VSC HVDC schemes following full SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).

Job DescriptionnAs a Lead Engineer, you will report within the Product Care Department.

The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic, and growing team of engineers working on the design of HVDC Control Systems.nThe Product Care function maintains Control and Protection application software, platform, valve electronics, handling obsolescence and implementing a life cycle process for the parts included, including what and when to communicate to customers, internal as well as external.


ResponsibilitiesnResponsible for overall requirements, design, implementation and testing of HVDC Control and Protection application software.nWork as part of an expert team, giving ample opportunity for learning design and development skills highly relevant for working with any control and protection system; in particular, power electronics systems and grid technology.nExecute the analysis, simulation, test, and integration required to define, and support assigned components, modules or systems that meet business standards.nApply prior experience and on the job training to solve problems.

Propose solutions utilizing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline, analytical thinking, and technical experience in solving problems.nCoach and mentor team members with less experience, lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.

Develop skills within the team and manage performance.nLead and active participation in continuous improvement activities.nResponsible for operational planning/execution within a technical discipline.


Qualifications / Essential Requirements:

nEngineering degree in Computer Science or power systems and power electronics subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.nLead design and development of event and rate driven application software for control and protection systems.nCompetent on functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems.nKnowledge of PSCAD and competent using MATLAB-SIMULINK simulation tools.nPromote Agile Software development practices within the team.nLead team members on Git, Jira and Confluence for version control, task/defect management and documentation.nStrong written/verbal communication skills and can-do attitude.


Desired characteristics:
nProcess improvement or RCA experience or certification.nExperience working in HVDC industry.nKnowledge of HVDC Control, Protection and Sequencing strategy.
