Learning Co-ordinator

Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield City Council Full time
Job description

Our children and young people need highly skilled and committed people who can build appropriate relationships and support them on their journey to a positive future.

We are currently looking to recruit a permanent, full time Learning Co-ordinator at Aldine House Secure Children's Home where we are licensed to provide care, education and support to ten children and young people aged between 10 and 18.

As a specialist service, we provide a critical first-line child protection and public protection service.

We work with young people who have been placed in secure accommodation either because they are deemed to be too vulnerable to be placed in an open residential placement, they have been sentenced by the courts or they have been placed with us on remand.

Each young person presents a distinct and significant challenge to our staff who work together to build relationships and help young people make progress.

All of our staff are required to show high levels of resilience and resourcefulness in order to work successfully with our young people.

As a Learning Co-ordinator at Aldine House you will preferably have previous experience either within the youth justice education arena, or specialist educational provisions dealing with emotional and behavioural disorders.

You will be outgoing, enthusiastic and able to provide higher level teaching assistant duties on a full time basis.

As well as occasionally leading lessons in term time, you must also have the ability to act as the liaison between the education and care departments with regard to the "Enrichments" programme to ensure Youth Custody Service contractual compliance with regard to the "full and purposeful day".

You must be able to work within an education team that delivers to a group of young people with diverse educational abilities.

You will report directly to the Head of Learning.

As an officer of Sheffield City Council you will adhere to and exceed the standards outlined in the Code of Conduct.

Sheffield City Council requires that new staff in our service undergo an enhanced DBS check along with other safeguarding checks.

You will receive continuous training and support to enable you to become an outstanding practitioner.

This includes monthly supervisions with your line manager as well as monthly probationary review meetings throughout your first year in the role.

All staff must be over 23 years of age to work in the Home.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups.

We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve.

We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade.

If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement.

We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
