Overview


The Head of Bid Technical Management role is part of the Alstom D&IS Engineering Leadership team and will also sit in the wider extended leadership team of the UK&I D&IS business unit, the role reports into the Engineering Director.

Alstom D&IS are a market leader in the UK&I Rail Industry.

Key to the success of the businesses work winning activities is the Head of Bid Technical Management role, reporting to the Engineering Director, supporting the Business Development & Tendering Director, the role is accountable for all bid technical management across all D&IS sectors (signalling, Infrastructure and Turnkey).


In this role you will lead a team of technical experts and system architects to develop winning tenders using industry leading products and processes, ensuring that customer needs are met in full and that we add value to our customers.

You will be accountable for ensuring that bid teams are supported with the appropriate technically competent resources, driving technical bid strategy, driving innovation into bids, continuous development and improvement of the reference solutions for the UK&I.


Alstom D&IS undertake a large and diverse portfolio of rail projects, from the two largest Network Rail signalling frameworks in Control Period 6 (the current NWR control period) to the Turnkey Heathrow Airport People mover to a suite of contracts on Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) worth in excess of £1 billion (system wide C610, Traction Power C644, Non traction power C650 and Plumstead Depot C695 contracts).

In addition we undertake a number of technically complex projects such as delivering the ETCS for the route from Paddington to Heathrow and our control centre projects.

The role will be pivotal in making sure we continue to develop clever technical solutions that add value to our customers and continue to win high profile and complex projects.

This role will be demanding but rewarding with an opportunity to shape the UK&I rail industry by the technical solutions you develop with the team and with the ability to influence product innovation and ways of working that reduce cost and add value.

Alstom D&IS is one of the few UK&I Rail Industry businesses that has a truly digital offering as we move into the future that demands digital systems such as ETCS signalling, cybersecurity solutions, and digital delivery processes.

  • Corporate Member of an engineering institute
  • Degree level engineering qualification

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in team leadership.
  • Knowledge of the UK&I railway safety approval processes.
  • Commercial and financial awareness
  • Application of systems engineering principles and good understanding of relevant systems and software tools and the aptitude to develop skills further.

Desirable Experience:

  • Extensive experience developing winning complex technical bids
  • Experience working in a railway systems engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of signalling and infrastructure solutions and railway operations.
