An exciting opportunity has arisen for a B4 Tobacco Dependence Advisor to join our new Tobacco Dependency Team at the Trust.

You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to patients by providing specialist advice and support to pregnant patients to help them to abstain from/quit smoking during their pregnancy and beyond.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about health promotion and health behaviour change. Previous experience in smoking cessation support or health care experience would be beneficial but is not essential as training will be provided. This position may suit a local candidate who is passionate about working with local residents to improve their health and wellbeing, and fluency in a local community language would be welcome.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the Tackling Tobacco Dependency Team, the post holder will provide individualized stop smoking support to pregnant patients in a flexible and innovative way. The post holder will also work closely with the Smoke Free Midwife Champion and other members of the maternity team.

Specifically, the post holder will:

Be responsible for the delivery of stop smoking support throughout pregnancy and the immediate post-natal period, using the support of interventions such as Carbon monoxide monitoring, behavioural support and Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Act as a smoke free champion promoting the Trust's smoke free policy and smoke free message through their day-to-day work Work closely with the Smoke Free Midwife Champion to deliver the Smoke-free Pregnancy Project and provide regular feedback on smoking in pregnancy data Work independently with patients, within the agreed tobacco dependence pathways, recognizing when there is a need to defer to a more senior member of staff for advice and support Ensure robust follow-up and discharge planning for the patient's ongoing tobacco dependency treatment.

The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.

Essential criteria

GCSE's or equivalent in subjects English and Mathematics A level or equivalent standard of education/practical experience Level 2 (NCSCT or equivalent) Stop Smoking Adviser qualification NCSCT speciality module: Pregnancy and Post-partum

Desirable criteria

Specific Training in health promotion/behaviour change interventions NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme for Pregnant Women Very brief advice on smoking for pregnant women

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria

Computer literacy skills including ability to use Microsoft Outlook, excel and word A good level of understanding of evidence-based practice and guidelines in relation to smoking cessation The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with professionals/individuals from a variety of different backgrounds Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with excellent spoken and written English Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload and coordinate own schedule without direct supervision

Desirable criteria

Fluency in community languages such as Polish, Turkish, Urdu, Romanian or others A basic understanding of audit and evaluation Ability to deliver training to support staff to give brief advice on smoking cessation and treating tobacco dependency
