The Role
We are looking to recruit a Play Leader to join the Children's Services Team at University Hospital Wishaw


The Play Leader will provide basic play for children and young people attending the hospital, either in an ambulatory environment or as an inpatient.

The Play Leader must ensure Children's rights are protected and promoted at all times.

  • A safe and welcoming child focussed environment for children and young people, engaged in play activities.
  • A sustainable level of safe and age appropriate play materials / equipment.


The Play Leader will work within the Multidisciplinary Team and raise any concerns to a senior member of the team.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Certificate in hospital play specialism
  • Working towards HNC Childhood Practice or SVQ3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development
  • Evidence of the ability to deliver play and activities
  • Ability to follow toy manufacturers operating instructions
  • Ability to work as a cooperative team member
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to follow policy instruction
  • Ability to work within challenging environments and to handle stressful situations well.
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Evidence of maintaining own professional development and CPD

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience in hospital setting
  • Knowledge around current issues in hospital play
  • Ability to work using own initiative
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Car Driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA licence
