Job Description Overview:


The post holder will provide a high quality and responsive reception service to all customers, patients and visitors ensuring that the reception runs efficiently and in accordance with the practice requirements, policies and procedures.


Primary Areas of Responsibility:

  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and visitors to the clinic
  • Deal with general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and followup appointments.
  • Assist new patients in registering with the clinic and ensure that they are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately
  • Book patients in when they arrive for an appointment in accordance with the practice appointment system
  • Ensure that the reception area is tidy and welcoming
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for appointments and services, process payments and issue receipts.
  • Enter patient information on to the computer as required.
  • Make and serve refreshments for customers, patients and visitors
  • Act as a Chaperone if requested by a patient.
  • Ensure that patient, customer and staff areas are clean and tidy, completing and logging relevant checks as required in line with clinic policies and procedures
  • Premises:
  • Open up premises at the start of the day when first to arrive, deactivate alarm and make all necessary preparations to receive patients and customers.
  • When last to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is totally secured, internal lights are off and the alarm activated.
  • Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Clinic Manager.
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the receptionist may be requested to:

  • Participate in clinic audit as directed by the audit lead
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the clinic.
