Overall purpose of the role
Audit Scotland's Communications team directs and implements the organisation's internal and external communications.

The work of the team includes strategic media planning, dealing with media enquiries, arranging media and parliamentary monitoring, overseeing our social media channels, keeping our website and intranet up to date, scheduling key publications, graphic design and development, managing our internal communications and communications with key stakeholders.


The Web Content Officer will work on the continuous improvement of our website and online presence and keeping our website content updated and timely.


The Web Content Officer will be part of our award-winning, multi-disciplinary Communications team, and will work closely with our Web Manager, Graphic Designers, Communications Advisors, Social Media Manager and Production Managers to help ensure a high-quality and continuously improving online and digital service.


What you will be doing

  • Using our content management systems to publish web content and assets.
  • Creating accessible digital content and documents.
  • Processing statistical data and analytics to analyse web usage.
  • Carrying out quality assurance, testing and accessibility checks on our work.
  • Maintaining and building web pages using HTML and CSS.

Knowledge and experience


This role would suit someone with previous experience in a similar or related role - successful applicant work across content management and the publishing of a variety of Audit Scotland outputs such as reports, videos, graphics and animations.

They will also work on webpages and developing new components and features to help Audit Scotland communicate its findings and for our audiences to engage with our work.


Audit Scotland supports the Auditor General and Accounts Commission to ensure public sector bodies are held to account for the proper, efficient and effective use of public money, and to help public services improve.

Communicating and engaging effectively with the wide range of people, communities and organisations affected by and interested in our work is key to supporting our aim of being a world-class audit organisation.

Excellent communications and engagement also help us focus on the right priorities, ensure our work has an impact, and safeguard our independence and reputation.


Person specification - specific knowledge and experience

Essential:

  • You have proven experience of working with content management systems (ideally Drupal).
  • You will have working knowledge of HTML and CSS, with an understanding of development frameworks such as Bootstrap.
  • You will have an understanding of responsive design and development.
  • You will have knowledge of accessibility requirements and W3C web standards.
  • You will have image editing and optimisation skills.
  • You are able to work with statistical data such as Google analytics to help produce impact reports.
  • You must be capable of managing and prioritising your workload, understanding when and where to seek additional support and approval.
  • You will have a good standard of written English, with experience of manipulating reports or documents.
  • You will have good attention to detail.
  • You're emotionally intelligent and can work with people from different backgrounds.
  • You bring improvement ideas and solutions for your internal clients with the ability to persuade and influence others. Your values align with Audit Scotland (integrity, quality, inclusion).

Desirable:

  • Experience in the public sector or an understanding of the differences between private and public sector employers
