We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to fulfil the post of Early Diagnosis Cancer Support Worker, working within our skin cancer team.


You will work extremely closely with our Dermatology Cancer Nurse Specialists and assist, support and co-ordinate a smooth patient journey and pathway.


A large part of the role is providing administrative and co-ordination support to patients, families, consultants, cancer nurse specialists and other staff involved in the early part of the cancer pathway.


The successful applicant will ensure the efficient channelling and close co-ordination of the outpatient pathway ensuring robust communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust.


The post holder will demonstrate an understanding of cancer services, have excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.

The post holder will have excellent communication skills and be willing to undertake ongoing training and development.

In addition, the post holder will be able to signpost patients and carers to the relevant sources of support and information appropriate to their needs.

An essential part of the role will be the working under the guidance of the clinical teams to co-ordinate patient appointments and diagnostic testing, also collection of data relating to the cancer patient's journey.

Other key responsibilities of this role will be understanding the importance of data quality and managing a varied workload.


This varied workload will include patient contact via telephone, being a point of contact for referrals and service queries, typing letters where required, organising patient appointments and supporting the management of the MDT.
