About The Role

Reporting to the Deputy Creative Director and working closely with other members of the Telegraph Leadership Team including the Creative Director and Director of Product and other key stakeholders, the Design Project Manager will play a key role in driving this transformation by delivering the projects in the plan. This role will be aligned to the Design and Product department and will be responsible for supporting the Creative Director and Director of Innovation and their direct reports to deliver on their strategy, process and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with the Deputy Creative Director, Creative Director and Director of Innovation on the management of day to day running of the design department
  • Ensuring design workflow is aligned with prioritisation of projects
  • Ensuring relevant stakeholders are brought into the work process at the relevant time
  • Provide a mix of leadership, coordination and hands-on support in order to:

Highlight dependencies between projects to establish processes for consistent reporting of these projects both to the Creative Director and Chief Product Officer

Help the project leads to identify, and resolve risks & issues, escalating where necessary

Deep dive into specific projects to provide assistance where required - process mapping, capturing requirements, setting up workshops, producing presentations, liaising with other departments/stakeholders etc.

Take an interest in and gain an understanding of the subject matter in order to contribute to decision making

Identify where additional skills/resources are required to complete the projects

Key Skills

  • Track record of successfully delivering projects, not necessarily in a formal PM capacity
  • Experience / understanding of the processes and tools used in design - from a business, not technical, standpoint.
  • Ability to understand technical aspects of projects enough to manage timelines, risks and issues
  • Natural curiosity regarding how things work and a desire to fix business problems
  • Strong intellect, strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a complex, fast paced, rapidly evolving environment, and to adapt scope and deliverables based on feedback
  • Ability to establish contacts, collaborate and build alliances at all levels and to communicate persuasively, clearly and authoritatively
  • An optimistic, positive, yet pragmatic outlook, and an ability to handle setbacks with good humour
  • Organised and structured, but equally adaptable and not constrained by process Desirable Skills:
  • Experience of managing or being involved in system implementations (ideally Design ones)
  • Experience of working with the media or other fast paced sector
  • A recognised project management qualification
  • A recognised process improvement and/or agile working qualification
