We are recruiting for a Children's Support Worker who will be working closely with children and their mothers who are living in our refuges escaping domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse.


We are looking for women with experience of working with children; knowledge of the dynamics and impact of domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse and how they affect children; excellent interpersonal, listening skills and ability to communicate effectively with children; Good administration skills and an understanding of GDPR; excellent organisational skills with the ability to use own initiative and commitment to work within and maintain Refuge's core values.


The job involves working closely children and their mothers who are living in our refuges escaping domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse.

A key requirement is to provide personal welfare support and to ensure that women are provided with a safe, supportive and welcoming environment.

The post holder will support children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence and plan and provide stimulating, safe, and appropriate play opportunities.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for children.
  • Planning and providing stimulating play opportunities to encourage children from all backgrounds to develop and express themselves through play.
  • Working closely with Refuge workers to provide practical information and assistance to women about local services for children, such as play schemes, nursery, or schools.
  • Undertaking risk assessment for all activities to ensure that all health and safety requirements are met

Essential Skills or Experience
For us it is important that you are passionate, committed and care about the work Refuge undertakes. Not all roles require previous experience in the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector.

You may be able to bring relevant experience from another industry or transferable skills from a different type of role or volunteering/community experience.
