Cherish Children's Care has an exciting opportunity for a Residential Children's Practitioner to join our team at our home in Longton, Preston.


Specialising in providing support to children and young people with emotional and behavioural issues, Cherish Childrens Care provides residential children's homes across the northwest.

Our therapeutic homes provide our children and young people with a nurturing environment that supports them to safe and cared for.


Our team of Residential Practitioners worker alongside the management team in developing a comprehensive package of support for each young person ensuring that they are able to achieve positive outcomes for themselves.

As a Residential Support Practitioner you will be hands on in supporting our children and young people with their day to day life, supporting them to education, activities, preparing meals and maintaining appointments / health needs.


The home that we are recruiting for supports 3 young people aged between 8 and 18 years, that have low level needs.

Our children and young people often come to us as either a step into residential care for the first time or a step down from homes that provide more intensive support to their children and young people.

We work alongside children's social care services to support our young people in their transition to independence or to return home.


  • Hold a Level 3 NVQ Children or equivalent (desirable)
  • Has at least 1 years experience within a children's residential home setting with a proven track record of maintaining high standards of care.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • To be selfmotivated and task orientated.
  • Can demonstrate confidence in liaising with Social Workers, Police, LADO and families.
  • The desire and passion to safeguard, motivate, and inspire the young people in your care.
  • The characteristics and personality to handle challenging behaviour effectively and professionally.
  • Shift work including weekends, evenings & sleep in duties.

The key duties of the role are:

  • To maintain a high quality of care and support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of children and young people within the care of the home.
  • To provide a caring, supportive, and nurturing environment in which children/young people can feel safe and secure and free from harm. Establishing positive, warm and rewarding relationships with the children/young people.
  • Be responsible for reporting regularly on each young person's daily events at the residential home and always maintain all necessary information confidentially following the quality standards.
