Bracknell Forest's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Team believe that every child and young person should have access to high quality education, with the right support at the right time, so that they can achieve the best outcomes possible as adults.

The SEND Team is friendly and supportive, responsible for carrying out the Local Authority's statutory duties and processes linked to Education, Health and Care Plans for children and young people with SEND aged 0-25.

The team works with children, young people, parents and professionals to co-produce Education, Health and Care plans and agree provision and educational placement.

This is a diverse post which involves comprehensive knowledge of the SEN statutory framework.

Whether working in the office, side by side with colleagues, or some days from home, you will be fully inducted and supported.


As a SEND Officer, initially based within our Annual Review team, you will carry out our statutory duties in relation to annual reviews of Education, Health and Care Planning processes for children and young people with special educational needs.

You must have the ability to adjust to changes in working practice in response to changes in legislation or in local strategies and policies relating to SEN and Disabilities.


You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training
:

  • To carry out the casework associated with the statutory annual review process
  • To chair coproduction meetings and participate in meetings where resolutions need to be agreed in the best interests of the child/young person
  • Maintain up to date records using our case management system, Capita ONE
  • Writing, drafting, and amending EHCP's
  • Write reports for meetings such as SEND Panel
  • To contribute to new service developments
  • To have high expectations of all children and young people in the service
  • To ensure equality of opportunity for all children and to maintain good communication links with families, other services and agencies

What we're looking for
:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident and reliable person who is passionate about special educational needs. Strong communication skills are key as well as extensive experience of SEND services for children, young people and families. You will promote listening to children at every opportunity; ensuring their views are heard, recorded and acted upon in an appropriate and timely manner

Skills in mediating and a solution focussed approach is essential.


You will be able to undertake in person visits to schools and educational providers as required and be confident to offer support and challenge to ensure best outcomes for all children and young people.


If you have the ability to prioritise work independently and complete work within tight timescales, to meet statutory deadlines, to a good quality we would really like to hear from you.
