We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed clinical psychologist who will provide a service to the Stroke Unit at Wycombe Hospital.

This post is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team providing care to patients who have had a stroke and to their families.

As the clinical psychologist working in the unit, you will provide specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment and intervention to patients on the unit.

You will also advise on the psychological care of patients and contribute to service development.

We are working on plans to increase the psychology resource on the stroke unit, so the role is also likely to involve supervision and management of other psychology staff.

You will be seeing patients with emotional needs and cognitive impairment in an acute inpatient setting. Ability to carry out assessments of mood, often in the context of cognitive impairment is a requirement. You will work directly with patients, carrying out brief interventions and working collaboratively with other members of team.

Neuropsychological assessment is also a requirement of post, which can helpguide patient's rehabilitation or be used in the context of capacity assessment.

You will provide consultancy to other professions, be involved in teaching and training.

Informal supervision may be provided to other team members and formal supervision to psychology staff when further posts are established.


Contribution to service development will be part of the role and post holder will work with the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Chief Psychologist to support the development of additional psychology resource on the stroke unit.

The Stroke Unit at Wycombe Hospital is one of the leading stroke services in the UK. Across the service there are 39 beds with a combination of hyper acute and acute rehab. The multidisciplinary team has a strong ethos of collaborative sessions, established key working and weekly goal setting. There is a strong leadership team with bimonthly meetings to highlight development areas.

There is also a newly established patient experience group to gather first hand feedback and action plans for future development.
