The team is leading the Trust on its quality improvement journey.

This position offers an opportunity for an individual with an interest in improvement to contribute to taking WHHT to a new level of achievement and to embed QI into the culture at WHHT.

The Quality Improvement team works to improve quality for people in hospital through supporting staff with QI methodology, and facilitating training


The Improvement Lead supports the Harm Free Care team with data analysis and action planning and has a key role in implementation of the Trust Ward Accreditation process.


The post-holder will be required to have a good grounding in knowledge of Quality Improvement methodologies and experience of working to drive improvement.

They will be an ambassador for Quality Improvement across the Trust and provide expertise, advice, education and support to ensure that improvements are delivered effectively and for the benefits of patients and staff.

The Trust uses the Model for Improvement to facilitate achieving sustained improvement in all priority improvement workstreams and innovation.


The role of the Quality Improvement (QI) central team is to support and enable improvement work, developed, and owned at the front line, in clinical and non-clinical services.

The team will collaborate with divisions to facilitate the use of QI methodology for improvement workstreams, provide training, standardised tools, events, knowledge-sharing, project tracking, expertise, presence, ownership, and peer support for QI work.


The post holder will provide leadership, management, and direction to embed improvement science and a culture of continuous improvement across the divisions contributing to corporate objectives.

They will be responsible for overseeing implementation of the QI operations.


There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are planned as part of the New Hospital Programme.

These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

  • Champion, inspire and lead the development of a culture where improvement is a core component of every member of staff's daily routine
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders, across the divisions and services
  • Lead on the development of QI with the Lead for QI facilitating the Trust to use highquality tools and processes to support improvement work across the Trust
  • Responsible for the operational management of the improvement projects with the nominated divisional leads
  • Contribute to the body of research in improvement science and encourage others to as well
  • Responsible for developing and implementing systems and processes for tracking organisation wide QI work.
  • Responsible for analysing, reporting, and supporting performance of QI programs across the organisation.
  • Responsible for the ward accreditation and harm free care development, using data to drive improvement and supporting the divisions to do this working with the Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Nurse.
