This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a successful and growing department, within a supportive

degree level with evidence of outstanding practice working in a similar environment.

Essential Qualities / Skills:

  • Have a demonstrable history or working with groups of young adults (16+) within a musical context. This
could be teaching, workshop leadership or youth work

  • The ability to coach and support singing/vocal performance and development as we have many solo
singers and rap artists developing their craft

  • A desire to continue or develop a career as a professional teacher and to undertake formal teacher training
if not already achieved (this can be provided as part of the job)

  • Ability to inspire these learners by developing music performance lessons that can relate to and build on
their musical preferences, which lean towards grime, jungle, R&B and a variety of rap styles.

  • Ability to empathise with and understand the many challenges faced by young adults in a demographic
with high free school meals rate and poverty levels, many of whom struggled to succeed at school

Desirable Qualities / Skills:

  • Experience using music production technology to facilitate music creation with learners, preferably Logic Pro X
  • Experience of working in the creative industries using an entrepreneurial approach
  • Develop innovative ways of collaborating on projects both within the music department and with other courses
in the college

  • Experience of working professionally in the music industry
  • Extremely organised and able to manage own workload effectively and flexibly
