Job description:

The post holder will be part of the MOT Disciplinary Team (MDT) management team.


Within this role, they will progress MOT casework, make non-technical decisions based on the principles of Administrative Law and uphold the integrity of decision-making in the disciplinary process.


The post holder may have some line management responsibility for a geographically dispersed team of administrators regarding the supervision of the MOT scheme.

A significant part of this will be the ability to manage change and lead their team members through periods of uncertainty.


The successful applicant will be required to work in support of the MDT management Team and be instrumental in driving continuous improvement for the quality and consistency of MOT casework, to the benefit of road safety and external stakeholders.


The post holder will oversee and continuously develop the current administrative processes, ensuring they meet the required standard of quality and efficiency.

  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to _

MOT casework:

Initial Disciplinary Process:

  • Work collaboratively with team members to assess cases received into the MDT to reach decisions for further actions
  • Management of the MDT mailbox, triage and ensure a response is made to any customer facing enquiries within 2 working days. Ensure cases or case information is dealt with appropriately.

Disciplinary Decision Process:

  • Use logical argument to establish through the appliance of administrative law principles and the balance of probability the outcome of each case.

People Management & Leadership

  • Demonstrate leadership by providing guidance to staff to support the delivery of objectives. Manage and engage with honesty and integrity, and upholding the reputation of the Agency, Department and Civil Service.
  • Work in collaboration with other managers across all functions for the good of DVSA and to create a high performing and wellrespected Agency.

To be successful, you will need to be someone with superb organisational skills, being able to meet targets and objectives to time, cost and quality.


You will have excellent interpersonal skills, being able to communicate with others orally and in written, including being able to handle challenge conversations.

You can build and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to meet common objectives.

You enjoy working closely with a team, as well as the ability to work alone effectively.

Additional information


Due to nature of this role there maybe some travel involved, this is likely to occur up to once a month and may include overnight stays.
