Gosforth Junior High Academy is a thriving middle school where staff are highly valued and supported. As a school we are committed to providing the very best education for pupils from Year 5 to Year 8.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisor to join our pastoral support staff team at Gosforth Junior High Academy. You will work closely with our other Senior Learning and Pastoral Supervisors to provide pastoral support to students in our school. This will include mentoring and supporting individual students, managing student behaviour, meeting with parents and assisting students in line with the school's policies and procedures. The post requires you to be part of the school's safeguarding team, working with the DSL and Deputy DSLs, and therefore this will sometimes require you to respond to sensitive and challenging situations.

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is passionate about working with young people and is a creative, 'hands on' colleague. As one of the main contacts for pastoral support to students in the school, you will be empathetic and practical in equal measure, as well as being able to be sensitive when required, yet firm when needing to challenge student behaviour. Ideally, you will have experience working within a school environment or experience of working with young people in another context.

Primarily, the role will include day to day pastoral support for our students as well as managing students in isolation/internal exclusion however, it will also occasionally involve some general lesson cover requiring you to supervise classes during the absence of the class teacher. Before and after school, the role will entail running sports clubs for students.

  • The ability to work effectively within a supportive team environment
  • The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with our young people and their families
  • The ability to be firm and fair with our students in a range of contexts, including in a classroom
  • Excellent communication and ICT skills
  • An interest and commitment to the whole school community - in particular, sports

What we can offer you

  • An opportunity to work with highly skilled professionals
  • Enthusiastic and motivated students who 'are engaged in their learning and curious to learn more.' (Ofsted, 2023)
  • An exciting and extensive commitment to professional development
  • A school with its community at heart
  • An exciting programme of staff well-being activities
  • Wider career development opportunities to be involved in across the Gosforth Group

This is an exceptional opportunity to make a difference within a positive and exciting environment. If you share our community's ethos of progression, diversity and dynamism then we would be delighted to hear from you.

We hope you'll visit our website to find out more about us.

If you would like to visit our school or have any questions about the role, please email Mrs Tracey Wood, PA to the Principal, at . Please note that there is not an expectation for you to visit the school before application.

Applications are shortlisted for interview as they are received, and so early application is encouraged. We reserve the right to commence the interview process and close the vacancy prior to this date.

Gosforth Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. References will normally be requested prior to interview for those candidates shortlisted. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, along with other relevant pre-employment checks, including an online check.

The Trust is committed to equality, inclusion and diversity and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates.

Following the shortlisting process, where applicable, candidates who attend interview, will be reimbursed reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation.
