Job summary

To support and deputise for the Senior and Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure the provision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of staff and safe delivery of Cytotoxic medication, IV meds and blood products. To be able to safely coordinate the ward/department and ensure that there are education and training opportunities for all staff.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 nurse to join the team on the Haematology Day Unit to cover a secondment. The candidate will need excellent venepuncture and cannulation skills and have a keen interest in haematology. We have close links to The Royal Marsden, King's College and Kingston universities which provide courses and degree modules specific to haematology. The successful applicant will join a highly skilled specialist team that offer treatments including chemotherapy, blood product transfusions and venesections to patients with both malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. The post holder will be expected to provide and maintain high standards of care to our patients, be able to work autonomously as well as part of a cohesive team, have excellent communication skills and work within the multidisciplinary team. You will need to demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to this highly specialist group of patients. The successful applicant must be able to organise and prioritise their own work load, to work within an environment that requires flexibility and the need to work under pressure.

Qualifications/Experience

Essential

Three years qualified, with at least 18 months experience in Haem/Onc Chemotherapy competent Cannulation and venepuncture Competent to access PICC and Hickman lines

Desirable

Experience working in Day Care/Ambulatory Care Completed a Haem/Onc course

Organisational Management

Essential

Able to co-ordinate a shift Demonstrates an understanding of the assessment process for student nurses

Desirable

Knowledge of peer review Mentorship qualification
