Education Academy Fellow in Critical Care

Bart's Health comprises of Whipps Cross University Hospital, Newham University Hospital, Mile End Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and The Royal London. Within the structure of the new trust there is an Education Academy. Barts Health has four dedicated Medical Education, Simulation and Clinical Skills facilities. We take medical students from Queen Mary University, as well as overseas students. Teaching methods include problem-based learning, lectures, teaching clinics, part task training, full immersion simulation training and bedside teaching There is a real need to ensure that students and trainees within Barts Health continue to receive excellent tuition and that trainees have the best possible educational supervision. In line with the academy's education strategy, we intend to improve education by building a Trainee Teaching Faculty made up of Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate training. The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows. All fellows joining our team have been invited to join our Education Forum where fellows have access to a structured development programme.

Main duties of the job The successful post holder will be involved primarily with developing educational opportunities for ICM trainees through a wide range of teaching modalities including simulation based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics, a bedside teaching and be part of the drive to develop teams in managing the deteriorating patient. The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows supporting activity at our other centres. All fellows joining our team have been encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. For those who already have this there will be an opportunity to undertake ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course). Funding will be available towards supporting this. About us Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers. The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients. Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our We Care values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together. We strive to live by our We Care values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment where staff treat one another with dignity and respect. We aim to create an equitable working environment where every individual can fulfil their potential. Job description
Job responsibilities The post would be based at Newham University Hospital which is part of Barts NHS Trust. However, there will be an expectation for the post holder to support activity across all sites. The contract is 12 months, fixed-term and is 40:60 teaching and clinical. 40% of the time will be dedicated to Education Delivery and the other 60% will be as a trainee in the Adult Critical Care Unit at one of the sites. This would typically suit anyone wishing to undertake further training in intensive care medicine and education prior to or as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist Registrar training programme. It is essential for applicants to have experience working within an NHS Intensive Care Unit. Consideration will also be given to those trainees who have completed their core training in any base specialty and the clinical commitment adjusted accordingly. The post will have opportunities to be involved in other teaching programmes including QMUL critical care MSc programme, Foundation Trainees, interdisciplinary simulation training, and medical student teaching. The post holder would be responsible for their own personal development plan, with regards to both service and educational work.
