Marine Recovery Programme Manager

Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, United Kingdom Marine Conservation Society Full time

Marine Recovery Programme Manager
Home-based (within the UK)

The Organisation

We are the Marine Conservation Society, a UK charity fighting for a cleaner, better-protected, healthier ocean: one we can all enjoy.

Right now, our ocean is at a tipping point. We're polluting our waters and destroying precious habitats. We're harming the species that live there. This is reducing the ocean's ability to help fight the climate crisis. While a third of UK seas are protected on paper, less than 1% are well managed. We are determined to change this.

Using people-powered action and with science on our side, we defend habitats and species, working with communities, businesses and governments to encourage ocean-based climate action solutions across the UK.

We are now looking for a Marine Recovery Programme Manager to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Benefits

  • Salary of up to £38,000 per annum
  • Annual leave starting at 25 days per year, plus Bank Holidays and increasing with service (we also close between Christmas and New Year as extra time off)
  • 6% employer contributions to our stakeholder pension scheme
  • Sick pay at fullpay for 8 weeks, then 8 weeks at halfpay (after probation ends)
  • Great work life balance through flexible and in many cases, remote working
  • Support for your health and wellbeing with a programme of activities plus an employee assistance programme for you and the people who live with you
  • A paid day for you to volunteer to support another charity of your choice
  • Cycletowork scheme to help you buy a bike

This is an unmissable opportunity for a biodiversity conservation project manager with an excellent grasp of UK marine conservation to join our impactful organisation.

You'll discover a rewarding role, where your environmentally-targeted programmes will have a positive knock-on effect to our oceans.

What's more, you'll have the chance to put your plans and ambitions for sustainable oceans into action, allowing our oceans the chance at a better future and enabling them for generations to come.

The Role
As our Marine Recovery Programme Manager, you will lead the design and creation of UK-wide ocean restoration projects.

Driving ecological improvement, you will work to create innovative, nature-based solutions, focusing on biodiversity recovery.

You will lead the creation of transformative approaches that improve marine biodiversity and resilience in UK Waters and deliver our Ocean & Climate Resilience Programme.

You will address nature decline and deliver nature-based solutions, or novel approaches to marine management issues.

Additionally, you will:

  • Ensure projects are aligned with our strategic objectives
  • Consider the breadth and ecology of UK habitats and marine species
  • Help establish us as pioneers of marine recovery solutions in the UK
  • Work with the Head of Innovative Conservation
  • Collaborate to ensure projects transform policy into practice

About You
To be considered as a Marine Recovery Programme Manager, you will need:

  • Experience of managing a portfolio of projects
  • Experience of developing high quality funding proposals
  • The ability to develop and implement biodiversity conservation and management
policy and projects

  • The ability to manage staff members and support their development
  • Working knowledge of UK marine conservation issues, legislation and competent authorities
The closing date for this role is 9th June 2024.

Other organisations may call this role Marine Project Manager, Marine Conservation Programme Manager, Environmental Project Manager, Marine Recovery Project Manager, or Environmental Programme Manager.

Webrecruit and the Marine Conservation Society are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment.

Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.

So, if you're ready to lead a revolution for our oceans as a Marine Recovery Programme Manager, please apply via the button shown.

This vacancy is being advertised by Webrecruit. The services advertised by Webrecruit are those of an Employment Agency.
