Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom Frazer-Nash Consultancy Full time

Job Title: Senior Nuclear Systems Modelling Consultant

Salary range: £40,000 to £60,000 per annum

Location: Bristol or Manchester (flexible hybrid working, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home)

Closing date for this role is 30th July but we would encourage early applications

At Frazer-Nash we have a strong presence within the new-nuclear sector, and our current team of specialists cover a diverse range of different disciplines. We are looking for people who can complement our team in providing technical support to our clients, through:

  • Developing new and existing models of nuclear plants using a variety of modelling codes.
  • Performing analysis of fault sequences and other system transients to inform design decisions and support safety case submissions.
  • Providing technical expertise in understanding the complex thermal-hydraulic phenomena predicted by the modelling.
  • Providing model validation support and guidance.

What do we look for in a Senior Nuclear Systems Modelling Consultant?

For this role, we are specifically looking for people with previous experience of systems modelling within the nuclear sector to grow and support our current team, allowing us to meet the growing needs of our current and prospective clients. We anticipate that the role will encompass:

  • Continuing development of your technical expertise in using thermohydraulic modelling codes.
  • Communicating complex concepts and results to our customers in a way that they can be readily understood.
  • Developing and strengthening our technical and commercial relationships with our existing clients.
  • Expanding our technical capability and client base across the new-nuclear sector.

What will working for Senior Nuclear Systems Modelling Consultant be like?

Frazer-Nash empowers and supports engineers to manage the delivery of projects themselves throughout their careers, including:

  • Managing all aspects of technical projects, including client communication, project delivery and other staff involved in the project.
  • Developing new business by responding to enquiries and writing bids, and representing Frazer-Nash at client meetings, conferences and seminars.

We are always looking to strengthen and diversify our capabilities and you will have opportunities to help shape our future skills and services. Our projects are wide-ranging and can last from a few weeks to many years of sustained support. Typically, our people participate in several projects simultaneously, and so you can expect to enhance your skills through a diverse range of interesting and engaging work.

We value chartered engineer and fellow status, and we mentor and support our employees to achieve this. Working as part of a supportive group, you'll be proactive in developing your skills, reach out to colleagues for advice and support when needed, and freely share your experience with colleagues to support their development.

We are a systems and engineering technology consultancy that delivers innovative engineering to make people's lives safe, secure, sustainable, and affordable. Our people join us to make an impact on the world and to learn from some of the best minds in the industry. Our people stay because they value the wide variety of work, our supportive team environment and the career opportunities provided by our sustained growth.

Our Energy business unit supports a wide range of industries in the drive towards Net Zero, from nuclear power and renewable energy sources like wind, wave and hydrogen, to the energy networks and storage systems required for their integration. We provide an analytical capability to all of Frazer-Nash, supporting our full range of nuclear, energy, process industry and aviation customers.

Requirements

If you have the following, we would be interested to hear from you:

  • Experience of applying and understanding nuclear systems codes (e.g. RELAP, GOTHIC, CATHARE, TRACE, VIPRE, S5K) to support the design and/or operation of nuclear power plants.
  • Solid understanding of fluid flow, heat transfer, thermal hydraulics and multiphase flows.
  • Have a degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline, or a similar level of relevant experience.
  • The ability to independently manage and deliver projects to meet customer requirements.
  • Experience of writing proposals, client liaison and business development.
  • Be adept at communicating with clients and others at all levels, including through meetings and presentations, written reports, commercial bids and technical discussions.

Any of the following would also be of interest, but are not essential:

  • An ability to code using python, matlab or other software languages, to support or optimise analysis and simulation.
  • Experience of providing technical and commercial leadership for small project teams.
  • A relevant post-graduate degree.
