Trainee Highways Inspector

Ringway Jacobs - Brentwood


As a Highways Inspector, you will deliver a safe, sustainable, and effective highway network for all road users by way of routine Monthly, Quarterly and Annual inspections.

Routine inspections of the network are to identify defects which meet our investigatory levels as outlined in the maintenance strategy.

All identified issues are then risk assessed and logged onto a mobile capture device.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for carrying out inspections and recording the condition of the public highway to ensure it is maintained to a standard acceptable to the Highways Authority
  • Responsible for raising defects using data capture devices to enable the delivery teams or utilities to plan and prioritise work accordingly, that meet the appropriate Essex County Council policies
  • Responsible for providing advice, guidance and information to stakeholders, partners and customers. Responding to complaints, including guiding customers if no action is to be taken
  • Responsible for identifying sites of accident claims, checking works history and specification for safety compliance. Preparing documentation and attending court hearings to give evidence as a professional witness, to enable resolutions to be fully informed
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework
  • Other Ad Hoc duties to fulfil the requirement of the role

Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Customer service skills
  • Educated to RQF Level 3 (A Level) or equivalent by experience (Desirable)
